Dr. Gertrude Nakigozi

Dr. Gertrude Nakigozi is currently the Director Research at the Rakai Health Sciences Program and was previously Director Programs. 

She is a medical doctor, with specialist training in public health, focusing on Epidemiology and Biostatistics. 

Gertrude holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery (MBChB) from Makerere University, Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in epidemiology and biostatistics from Makerere School of Public Health/Johns Hopkins sandwich program. 

She has over 20 years’ experience in HIV programming, and in her previous role as director programs, oversaw HIV prevention, care and treatment services in 12 districts of Masaka region, supporting over 100,000 HIV positive clients. 

In the current role, she oversees the RHSP research platform. She is a researcher in the areas of HIV and non-communicable diseases and has authored and co-authored over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
