Nelson K. Sewankambo

Nelson K. Sewankambo, an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at Makerere University, co-founded the Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) and played a pivotal role in identifying Uganda's AIDS epidemic in the early 1980s. 

With expertise in clinical epidemiology and health research, he has held leadership positions at Makerere University, including Dean of the Medical School and Principal of the College of Health Sciences. 

As a Fellow of prestigious academies such as the African Academy of Sciences, Sewankambo has made significant contributions to the field. He actively serves on governance boards of national and international organizations, focusing on research and education. Sewankambo's dedication to advancing healthcare in Africa is evident through his role as vice-president of the African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth), facilitating collaborative efforts and research initiatives.
