Christophe Fraser

Family Foundation Professor
University of Oxford

Christophe Fraser is Moh Family Foundation Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the Pandemic Sciences Institute of the University of Oxford. He works on HIV and emerging viruses. In recent years he directed three multinational consortia that used virus genomics, mathematical modelling and social sciences to quantify the drivers of HIV transmission and to improve public health interventions. Building on this work, his team now supports African-led consortia that perform HIV prevention science, are rapidly building new capacity, and driving progress to the end the AIDS epidemic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he developed the underpinnings of contact tracing apps, working with several governments and technology companies. He supported their deployment and analyzed data they generated to provide unprecedented resolution into virus transmission and control. In his latest projects, he is engaged in developing tools for faster and more coordinated responses to new and emerging virus threats, working as part of a multisector collaboration funded by CEPI and engaging with several governments.'
